There have been multiple occurrences in the past few weeks where my friends and I have had uncontrollable bursts of laughter listening to the comedian, Chris D'Elia. In my opinion, he is the funniest comedian out there. Kevin Hart is also great, but that's besides the point. D'Elia does stand-up and has a podcast on YouTube. I first started listening to D'Elia when I was driving down to Fort Worth from Colorado. It was a 12 hour drive and we obviously didn't listen to his jokes for the entire time, but he really did keep us entertained. More recently, I have just been listening to his podcast on YouTube with all my buddies. He has made us all laugh out loud which shows how laughter is a social event and even contagious.
The specific occurrence of us bursting out in laughter was when D'Elia made a joke about his success when talking to his best friend, Bryan Callen. D'Elia sometimes comes on as a guest to Callen's podcast, and the relationship they have reminds me of how my friends act which is why I think they are so funny together. Anyway, D'Elia is a fan of making jokes about how wealthy he is from his comic success, and it was a perfect time to make one of these jokes when they started a conversation about how they all went out to dinner the night before. D'Elia explained they all went to a restaurant with quite a few of their friends and D'Elia picked up the whole check. Although they all ordered expensive entrees and expensive wine, D'Elia said that the expensive check didn't even make a "DENT" (as in didn't make a dent in his tremendous wealth). The delivery of the word "dent" is the key to what is funny in my opinion. You think D'Elia might make fun of Callen for not picking up the check, but when he says that it didn't even matter because it didn't make a dent in his wealth, it catches you off guard and it's funny. He repeats the word dent over and over which makes Callen mad because of how cocky D'Elia is being.
For those interested, D'Elia's podcast is called "Congratulations," he has several comedy stand-up specials that are on most of the streaming platforms, and his twitter is extremely entertaining. I thought his delivery was most of what makes him funny, but his writing is very entertaining so I think I'm wrong on that. He also appears on Brian Callen's podcast called "The Fighter and the Kid."
